Senior Professional Path to RICS Membership:
To become a member of
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
you will need to decide on one of four paths to membership status.
One of these paths is called the "Senior Professional route".
To apply for this position you will need 5-10 years experience
within the surveying profession. This path to membership is geared
towards seeing that you process the necessary management and
leadership qualities needed to attain RICS membership through this
route.
Application eligibility:
To be eligible to apply
to become a RICS senior professional member you must
1)
Have a minimum of 10 years of post-grad surveying experience. You
must also be currently involved in a senior position at a surveying
firm and process either a relevant first degree or a recognized
professional membership.
OR
2)
Have a minimum of 5 years of post-grad surveying experience. You
must also be currently involved in a senior position at a surveying
firm and process a SECOND degree.
Both of the above routes
also require that you are nominated for membership by your national
association or faculty.
Training process:
As stated earlier, one
of the main objectives of this level of professional achievement is
to ensure that you have the skills to manage people, time and
resources. Displaying your leadership characteristics are a must for
this level of career achievement.
During the training
process you will need to achieve 60 hours of professional
development over a 3 year period. You will also need to complete 3
short case study papers on demonstrating your leadership and
management skills in your area of expertise. Lately you will need to
provide your resume which must include all technical elements
mandatory for this level of education.
Similar to the other
routes to membership, upon completion of your course, you will need
to partake in a 1 hour interview with a short introductory
presentation about yourself based on your resume.
Lastly you will need to
write a test on professional development, ethics, management and
leadership issues.
