Graduate Path to RICS Membership:
To become a member of
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
you will need to decide on one of four paths to membership status.
One of these paths is called the "graduate route". There are no
experience requirements upon application but you will need to show
some academic achievements. Application eligibility is outlined
below.
Application eligibility:
To be eligible to apply
to become a RICS graduate member you must
1)
have a RICS accredited degree or be actively studying towards one.
Training process:
You will need to
complete 2 years of training as part of the APC (Assessment of
Professional Competence) mandate. During this time you will also
need to complete 96 hours of professional development to be
monitored by a councilor / supervisor.
For your final
assessment you will need to submit many things. For starters, your
log book and your interim report along with your final summary of
experience will need to be included in the submission package.
Likewise, your professional development survey will be due along
with a 3000 word critical analysis.
The last part of the
assessment includes a 60 minute interview where you will also be
given the opportunity to give a brief 10 minute presentation on
critical analysis. During this time you will also have to write a
test on professional practice and ethics.
It should also be noted
that there are 3 options to the graduate level. Each one is simply a
more advanced version of the last and require more experience on the
part of the applicant.
Upon successful
completion of the course you can put the designation MRICS at the
end of your name which simply shows you are a chartered surveyor and
a member of RICS.
